Medicals

Each athlete must undergo two types of medicals:

  1. annual full medicals: the full medical is effective for one year, for example: a medical dated September 6, 2005 is in effect until September 6, 2006. After September 6, 2006 another full medical must be conducted. Full medicals must be completed by a licensed medical practitioner and must use the 3-part WAMTAC medical forms. Annual full medicals can be conducted by WAMTAC's on-site medical practitioner at a fee of $40, which the athlete must provide to the medical practitioner. However, for the safety of all fighters, coaches, competition staff, judges and referees written proof of blood tests must be acquired by the athlete prior to the event, otherwise, the blood rule will be in effect during the competition (see rules and regulations).
IMPORTANT NOTICE: written proof of blood tests must be submitted to WAMTAC before any athlete is permitted to compete. It can take up to 3 weeks to receive results of your blood tests so please plan ahead.

The event roster, created by WAMTAC event administration staff and verified by the on site medical practitioner, will identify athletes who have not submitted confirmation of their blood test results at the time of competition (including HIV and Hepatitis A B C series). Copies of this event roster will be supplied to the judges, the ring referee and the on-site medical practitioner prior to the commencement of competition. During their competition, the referee and on site medical practitioner have the right to stop the fight if the athlete without the proper blood test results begins to bleed. In this event, the fight will be scored as follows:
    1. if the fight is stopped part way through round 1, no score will be issued. The fight result will be entered into the passport as "stopped with no score".
    2. if the fight is stopped part way through round 2, the fight will be scored based on the results of round 1 only.
    3. if the fight is stopped part way through round 3, the fight will be scored based on the results of round 1 and round 2 only.
Athletes are required to mail their blood test results after the competition to the attention of Ajarn Khan Phady (Address: 164 Macatee Place, Cambridge, ON, N1R 6Z8. The blood test results will be retained in the athlete’s files.
  2. pre-bout medicals: these are conducted free of charge prior to each competition by WAMTAC's medical practitioner. WAMTAC provides the pre-bout medical form during the registration process.
